How much excellence is enough?

Just a little bit more.  How much frugality is enough?  Just a little bit more.  How much somebodiness is enough?  Just a little bit more.  How much savings is enough?  Just a little bit more.  How much obedience is enough?  Just a little bit more.  How much sports-team righteousness is enough?  Just a little bit more, next game, month, season.

ShepherdDave is a Christian malcontent, with a bottomless pit of need to be….better.  Seems so spiritual to wannabe a better follower of Jesus, better husband, better father/grandfather, have better faith, better humility, better love, better peace.  But what’s the problem?  The dark side of wanting to be better, is that it shows how discontent I am with Jesus and His imputed worthiness/righteousness.  I want MORE than that.  I want better, so finally I can feel good about myself based on MY performance, not someone Else’s.  So I become addicted to…better.  Addiction, however, is a losing proposition.  Never leads to happiness, except when something goes my way, momentarily, then afterward, it’s back to…the quest for better.

–ShepherdDave, who only sees the problem when he’s been freshly convicted of his sin of wanting MORE than he already has in Jesus, so he might momentarily be DumbSheepDave, enjoying the bliss of Jesus-sufficiency/Jesus-dependency/Jesus-humility, so the nonbelievers and believers around him might experience the other-worldly humility and other-worldly love of Jesus
